I was raised in Charlotte, NC and the “Beverly Hills” of Charlotte is a neighborhood called Ballantyne. When I first got my license I would drive around Ballantyne, admiring the large houses, dreaming of owning my own way day. When I do own one of those homes... this will be the scent I’ll burn every night. This Cedar, Amber, and Bergamot scent will take you to the hills of Ballantyne. When I first smelled this sweet, wonderful, fruity, Blackberry fragrance I was mesmerized by its' beauty. A concoction of notes blended beautifully to highlight each one individually. I knew immediately I would be adding it to my line but after weeks I still couldn't think of a name. I went through over ten names, locations of course, but none of those names truly illustrated the beauty of the fragrance because I've never been anywhere with that smell. In frustration I closed my eyes, smelled the candle, and said, "It's just MARVELOUS."...... and the name was born. I was raised in Charlotte, NC but I'm from Waterbury, Ct. So I spend my summers in Connecticut with my grandparents, getting away with things they wouldn't dare allow my parents to get away with. I spent time with my maternal and paternal grandparents equally and those summers were the highlight of my childhood. I loved my grandparents and they loved me. As I got older, unfortunately the natural course of life took effect and my grandparents, one by one, 'went home to be with the lord,' in 2002, 2005, and 2014 respectively. While Dojo Candles was created in remembrance of my paternal grandmother Doris, My maternal grandmother is still living and she's been extremely instrumental in encouraging me to follow my dreams, giving me a pep talk, so I wanted to honor her too. Make her, her candle while she can still smell it. So I called her and told her I plan to make a candle in honor of her, her response was, 'Just make sure it smells as sweet as me,' I searched and search and I finally found it grandma! This smell is so nice, I had to name to twice, in honor of my grandma Josephine, I present to you JOSEPHINE, JOSEPHINE. When I was a child my grandfather had a Cadalliac, a full size one not one of the compact ones they sell today, from his rear view dangled half of dozen of those little vanilla car freshener trees. In the morning he could grab his keys and say, 'Let's take a ride.' We would drive past the miles of tobacco fields with all four windows rolled all the way down and the wind would dance throughout the car, that dance smelled, and that smell was a mixture of Tobacco and Vanilla. The Cadalliac broke, my grandfather died, and that smell was just a memory etched in my heart. With Dojo Candles, I wanted to recreate that memory... so I present to you North Carolina Rd.
